She loved to play the game and had played for several years on Kevin Carney's team with many of her friends. We tossed around many ideas as to when to have it and who to invite. We decided to have the tournament at the beginning of the season to provide a fun way to get some game experience before the season starts. We started out the first year with about 160 players and this last year it grew to over 500 players. The tournament is for all rec teams in the area. We start the tournament on Friday night with the local teams. Saturday is the big day when we have most games and we provide a hot dog lunch for all players and coaches. Sunday concludes the tournament with the presentation of trophies for first and second place winners. We also give a "good sportsmanship" award to the team who shows the best attitude.
We would love to have all Marion County teams, as well as surrounding counties, participating this year in the tournament. It is a wonderful way for us to remember Katie!!
